They are rejecting pictures that are bigger than those currently on file e.g.

Can someone please explain the rules to this newbie and reinstate the above pics, thank you.

Hello murraymomo. Thanks for your contribution. Higher file size and resolution does not automatically mean that the quality of an image is higher. It was said numerous times in the past. Your uploads bring nothing new in comparison with pictures that are already online. They actually bring less in terms of crop, definition and compression.

I'd also like to add that the resolution your pictures use are not up to the detail they include, by far. Have a look at this image https://dp9a3tyzxd5qs.cloudfront.net/the-world-is-not-enough-1999-3.jpg . It comes from different movie, but the same year. The resolution/detail ratio is times better.

If you find and upload a version that contains some new image information, I will be happy to approve it.

Best regards

andrewz

Looking at your comparison is meaningless, these are clearly two different images and you clearly need a crash course in the rules.

No, these are images we are talking about. If I had undoubtedly better copy, I would upload it myself. First MSDB picture in the comparison only has slightly reduced noise (some prefer the original version, since it has slightly more detail) to make the comparison easier to evaluate. It takes three clicks in raster editor to give such result. No matter how long you spend in raster editor with your mentioned uploads, you won't achieve better quality than is already online.

I don't need to crash course in the rules. I'm not the original uploader, so I have no conflict of interest. You can also notice that I already approved many of your uploads, so it's clearly nothing personal:

Please spend more time on learning what attributes a quality image has and uploading such images, rather than impolitely PM moderators what to do. We are grateful for your general contribution, but we also have to respect contribution of the original uploader and mainly every user who browse our galleries (so that they get the best version available). Accepting your version of images would make sense only if we took your credit balance in account, but this is not the only vantage point.

I can understand your dissatisfaction, since many of my own uploads (some of them took me some time to retouch) were rejected or overwritten by other users who uploaded a better version, but all of us have to deal with the repeated mantra that "the highest quality stays online" (not size as you incorrectly interpreted) for everybody to benefit (not mentioning that "Moderators can refuse any image if it doesn't meet the above requirements or if they feel the quality is too low." https://www.moviestillsdb.com/add?imdb_id=176269 ). At the end, when we put our egos aside, having the best version for everybody to see is the most important thing.

Best regards

andrewz

You're a liar, you're just trying to justify your decision so stop lying before you make an even bigger fool of yourself. I'M NOT BACKING DOWN, I'll go to Martin if need be, reinstate those images.

Ok you need to calm down man. We're obviously grateful for all your work but in this particular case Andrewz has given 2 good examples of uploads made by you that do not have a significantly better quality than what we already have. I agree with him that it's not justified to remove the old versions of those images.

I'm not sure I understand why you'd say the comparison is "meaningless" because "these are clearly two different images"? You did check the link and mouseover the image to compare, right?
